The French Parliament is leaning towards the decision of banning beauty pageants for children under 16 years of age.
The bill was adopted by 196 votes to 146, now it is waiting to be passed in the National Assembly in November before it becomes an actual law.
The amendment to a law on women’s rights is any beauty pageant organizers will be given a fine of 30,000 euros, which is 40,000 American dollars, and can serve up to two years in prison.
France is astonished by how Americans have beauty pageants for such young girls, and believe it starts their lives off in the wrong direction.
The French believe that intelligence should come before beauty. They want young girls to concentrate on books rather than worrying about their appearance.
