Playboi Carti

Saturday, December 22nd, Playboi Carti capped off his NEON national tour at Revention Music Center. Doors to the venue opened at 7pm, but fans began lining up hours before. By the time the doors opened, the line wrapped more than halfway around the building.

Full of energy, the crowd rushed onto the floor, and lines for merchandise grew longer and longer throughout the night. Even before the show started, the crowd was pushing up towards the front. The venue repeatedly had to ask fans to step back in order to secure the barriers protecting the stage.

At 8:30 the opening act, LB, took the stage. Playing through two of his own songs, and then covering Mo Bamba by Sheck Wes, LB gave the crowd a taste of what was to come. After a short 15 minute set, LB left the stage and left the crowd seeming to look for more. Carti was set to take the stage at 9pm, but was delayed until 9:30. The crowd, fed up with the delays, began booing the house music and chanting “ We want Carti”.

In typical rap show fashion, Carti finally took the stage just after 10pm, and the crowd went wild. Energetic as ever, Carti was a true crowd pleaser, with fans screaming along the lyrics to the opening songs. The venue was packed to the brim, and the fans were moshing hard. Drinks and clothing items flew from the floor and Carti took notice, repeatedly telling the house to shine the lights on the crowd.

One fan took the opportunity to jump on stage, while another climbed over the balcony railing and dangled above the floor. If one thing could be said for certain, it would be that the crowd was electric. Carti capped off the night with a cover of Travis Scott’s SICKO MODE, and fans ate it up. Despite the delays, fans got what they came to see, an energetic performance by one of rap’s most popular artists and a chance to party with other Houstonians one last time before the holidays.
