“Well … I think it’s safe to say the Maze Trials were a complete success.”– Ava Paige
Without getting into much details, the maze phase deals with Thomas leading a group of “gladers” out of the maze. Throughout this most dangerous mission, friendships are tested, trust is earned, but also sacrifices are made. It is up to Thomas and his friends to do whatever it takes to escape, and so they did.
“So, let’s move forward. It’s time now to begin … Phase Two.” -Ava Paige
On to the scorch trials, they have escaped the maze but what’s next?
The “gladers” that survived thought that they were now free. Although, now they were faced with a new set of challenges in a scorched dessert. As they go further, they come to the realization that they are being manipulated by W.I.C.K.E.D. and begin to know about the virus that is spreading rapidly. Their only solution is to unite with a group of fighters and fight against WCKD’s unfairness. Once again, they were all being tested, even among themselves.
“The chaos around him seemed to siphon away his humanity, turn him into an animal. All he wasted was to survive, make it to that building, get inside. Live. Gain another day.” -James Dashner, The Scorch Trials
Now, the epic finale on the maze runner saga, The Death Cure.
This story not only continues, but also ends Thomas’ mission into leading his friends out of the hands of WCKD.
Not only can action and entertainment be found throughout this film, but also lots of emotions and excitement. Without any spoilers, I will admit that I reached for a tissue a few times.
As a beginner fan of the books, this movie couldn’t had ended in any better way. Although we can always find book factors missing in the movies, the story concept remain constant. The only difference is that it’s showed differently with animations.
“They took you because you’re immune to a plague that’s wiping out the human race. They think you’re worth sacrificing to find a cure.” -Vince
Even after escaping the hands of WCKD, twice, their mission was to return were everything was created and find a solution, an alternative solution. The only thing Thomas would think of was a way to save all his friends without the need of killing others.
“I did what I thought was right.” -Teresa
It can be said that others had the same thoughts of finding a cure that would save humanity but on other terms. Risking anything in order to achieve their main goal. If that’s the case, why not work together? The main reason can be found in the conflict between Thomas and WCKD. He has tired of his friends and others being killed.
Overall, the moment we were all eager to see finally arrived after so long. After the film was released, social media was filled with comments and reviews about The Death Cure. Personally, I would encourage everyone who is into science fiction to take the time and watch the series. With the books and the movies, I have made many personal connections as well as eye-opening moments that have made me see the world different in a positive way. Ever since The maze runner, I have kept in mind what Newt once said, “What does matter is who we are now, and what we do right now,” which is true. It keeps me motivated and helps me see the best in me and others.
Whether is the series or the films, I can’t wait for what James Dashner holds for us in the future.
“But we started this together, we may as well end it together too.” -Newt
