Can I Just Express My Opinion?

Recently I saw a disturbing video of two men, one of which was a combat veteran, being arrested for expressing their opinion. It really scares me that universities around the country have implemented a “free speech zone” system in which an individual or group must have a permit to express their opinion in public. I’ve seen many people get arrested for the most trivial of things, such as holding signs, passing out fliers, or just expressing their opinion. What’s crazy about it is that the American people have had the constitutional right to express their opinion for 228 years. Why is it that now, we the American people need a permit to do what Americans have been doing for hundreds of years? Nowadays it seems that we need a permit to do any and everything. Can I just express my opinion and not get arrested?
