Fatal HISD bus accident leaves two families grieving

Today, at approximately 7 a.m., a HISD school bus carrying REACH Charter and Furr High School students were involved in a deadly accident.

According to HISD, the school bus was equipped with lap belts; however, they are optional to wear, not enforced. These lap belts are also only provided in 40-50 percent of the 950 busses owned by HISD. The bus was also equipped with a crush-proof ceiling and other equipment that offers protection from accidents.
